This week’s Devotional Topic
GREAT NEWS
The “Great News” of the gospel is really good news. As we recognize how serious the fatal problem of sin is, we see clearly how fantastic and glorious the gospel is as THE solution to the problem.
First we see the sin Problem: The sin of Adam and Eve is passed down from generation to generation. This sin nature has been passed down from generation to generation and as Paul told the church in Rome…
Romans 3:23,24 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus
And then the Penalty for sin:
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:8,9,12 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
And finally, we can praise God for his Provision in Christ’s sacrifice on the cross:
I Corinthians 15:1-3 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
Ephesians 2:4-10 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
II Co 6:1,2 As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.
Salvation is the gift of God, by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. This salvation is the possession of those who by faith accept Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. There is no other name given among men whereby we MUST be saved.
