This week’s Devotional Topic
THE MIRROR
Father we thank you that your word is truth. You are “the word”. Your scriptures are profitable. Help us to invest time in your word as if we were mining for gold. Indeed, your word is more precious than silver or gold. And as we look into the mirror of your word, help us to be wise. Only a fool would look into a mirror, see areas that need change and would then walk away without making corrections. Even as you listen to God’s word today spoken or in song, be listening for application to your own life. And as the Spirit of God brings them to your attention, make that change.
As you look into your mirror today, you hope to see everything looking good…your hair, your clothes. You want to see a good reflection. God’s word, the Bible is a spiritual mirror.
James chapter one addresses this very clearly:
“…be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”
Lord help us to invest so much time in Your word that when others see us they will know that we have been with Jesus.
