This week’s Devotional Topic
Being Humble, God’s Way
I once heard of a person who published a book titled “Humility and How I Attained It” that included 20 wallet sized pictures, an 8 x 10 glossy, color photo with chrome frame, and a lifesize cardboard stand-up. We may laugh at that, but it helps get the point across. The character trait of humility is not all about me. On the other hand, it is all about others.
Listen to how God defines Humility and the role it should have in our lives:
James 4:6-7, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore submit to God.”
James 4:6-10, “As the Scriptures say, ‘God opposes the proud but favors the humble.’ So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. … Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.”
Isaiah 57:15, “Thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.'”
May God help us to have the mind of Christ who humbled himself and became obedient unto death. Let’s consider ourselves to be dead to sin and alive in Christ.
