This Week’s Devotional Topic

BOWL OF PROMISES

How are you feeling right now? Are you thinking that it would be nice to have a cup of coffee or a delicious tea? Or are you kind of down at the moment and your mind is telling you that it would be awesome to have a few bites of your favorite chocolate. Or would you love it if you could just close your eyes and listen to the pleasant sound of rain gently falling on the roof. Or maybe how wonderful it would be to stand on a stretch of ocean beach, smelling the fresh salt air, feeling the gentle breeze and hearing the waves in the distance. God has given us these senses knowing that there are times when we just need those happy, positive moments. God has also given us Spiritual senses and there are moments when we need reminders of God’s blessed promises.

Some of us occasionally need that spiritual ‘boost’ of our heavenly Father’s words, His precious promises. As Peter put it….

II Peter 1:2-4   May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

Here are just a few of those promises for us to consider and meditate on.

Let’s start at the beginning, where we begin our Spiritual life, in Christ.

John 3:16-18   For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned:

I John 5:13   I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

Ever need wisdom?

James 1:5   If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Concerned about your finances or other “needs”?

Philippians 4:19   And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

You or someone you know need healing?

James 5:13-16   Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

Ask and you WILL receive!

Matthew 21:22   And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

Missing the joy of your salvation?

John 16:24   You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.

Want to know God’s will?

Proverbs 3:5,6   Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Romans 12:2   Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

And what about “peace”?

Philippians 4:6,7   Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Next time you come across one of God’s promises while you’re reading His word, underline it AND write it down on a piece of paper or small card. Put these in a bowl, then when you need to, just take one out. God’s word always accomplishes what He intends it to.
