This week’s Devotional Topic
CHIEF SHEPHERD
The LORD is our Chief Shepherd. God’s word compares the care that He provides for to the relationship between sheep and the good Shepherd. He is the very definition of a “good shepherd” as he shows tender affections toward his flock. God takes us into His fold, protects us, takes care of us and meets all our needs.
He is that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, making us perfect in every good work to do his will, working in and through us that which is wellpleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ.
As we read in John 10 – My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.
And listen to the words of Exekiel 34 as it describes what type of care this shepherd provides – “I Myself will tend My sheep and give them a place to lie down in peace, says the Sovereign LORD. I will search for My lost ones who strayed away, and I will bring them safely home again. I will bandage the injured and strengthen the weak.”
And then the most well known scripture describing our “Shepherd” – Psalm 23 The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me.
Folks, this is the “Shepherd” who gave his life for you, His sheep. Your response is to love Him, respect Him and honor him. And rest in Him…He’s got your back.
