This week’s Devotional Topic
INDEPENDENCE DAY – “Patriotism”
Do you consider yourself a “Patriot”? Are you proud to be an American? Do you appreciate the liberty we enjoy? We have so many freedoms and privileges, we should be praising God every moment of every day. As we think about the concept of Patriotism, what does that mean to you? And more importantly, what does it mean from God’s perspective? What does His word say about this nation, our leaders, our responsibility to our country and the politicians?
All authority of our nations leaders comes from God. We are to recognize their authority and respect the positions that people are placed in. The apostle Paul was proud of the fact that he was “born a citizen” of Rome. And he was thankful for and confident in the privileges of citizenship. We also can be thankful for this nation and the privileges we are blessed with. Thank God that we can proudly say we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands. One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
And as a citizen of the United States, you could say that we have a dual citizenship. Here in the U.S.A. and as a citizen of Heaven. And you have a spiritual “Independence Day” as a Christian.
