Ask – Receive
The Bible is the story of God’s love. In John 3:16 we are reminded that God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son. An infinite demonstration of His love for us. And for those of us who have accepted His gift of salvation, we are very much like Children with a heavenly Father. When God’s word states that we can “…ask and ye shall receive…” it is not like an earthly father telling his young child that when they ask for ALL the candy, he will always say “Yes”. That may be a poor example but the fact is that our Father in heaven knows what is best for us and “asking” God for things isn’t a ‘blank check’. Our heavenly Father’s instructions in the Bible describe what is involved in asking and receiving.
Some of the factors you can see in God’s word include: asking in Faith, without selfish motives but according to His will, and it is undeniable that He knows what we need before we ask. Jesus gave us clear instructions to ask with the attitude that we know God knows what is best and His will is what we really want. Consider these two examples from Jesus….when we look at the words of what we commonly refer to as “the LORD’s prayer” we see the acknowledgement.- ”Thy will be done…on earth as it is in heaven”. And in the Garden of Gethsemane when Jesus prayed, he asked if at all possible that the “cup” would pass from Him and yet he made it clear He would accept “not my will but Thine be done”.
The LORD loves us with an everlasting love and although a man plans his way, it is God that directs our steps. And we can trust His faithfulness in our lives. The LORD is our loving Heavenly Father, He wants us to ASK. So ask and receive that your joy may be full.
